1 year update

Time has gone by so quickly... I cannot believe it has been 13 months since I last dyed my hair.

And I have not regretted it once! If anything, I've become very proud of my gray mane and am now much more aware of how fake dyed hair looks on other people. I have never been more convinced that I made the right decision :)

I'm not going to lie, not everyone around me is being supportive (not to my face of course, although...) and I've heard second hand feedback that a few of my close friends actually do not like it. But you know what? I do! I like it! And aside from those few people, most of my entourage is really encouraging and gives me compliments. This feels good.

One thing is for sure though: I am in the middle of an extremely awkward transition. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I don't intend to cut my hair short while I grow out my grays. I'd say at that rate my hair is growing, I'm about a third in. I do get semi-regular trims (an inch off every two months or so), so  in about a year I might consider chopping off the ends (the grays should be below the shoulders by then).

We'll see how that goes!

I'll be back in 6 months for an 18 months update and I'll leave you with update pictures of the past few months :)

Don't hesitate to ask me questions and leave me comments!

9 months update

Hi everyone!

It's been 9 months since I started my voyage into silver hairdom, and things could not go better (or look more awkward). I'm patiently growing my skunk-stripy long hair and now have about 3 inches of virgin salt and pepper roots and about 13 inches of oxidized dry straw :)

It sounds more horrible than it really is. I find that the awkwardness of my transition is really at its worse on day 2 hair. I found a good way to circumvent this by wearing my hair down and sleek on day 1, and on day 2 I just wear it in a high pony tail, braided pony tail, or tousled beach waves/curls (my hair is naturally wavy, so that is usually a very low maintenance style for me).

Not much else to update you on... I really steer clear of most heating tools (aside from the flattening iron every once in a while, and always set at the lowest temperature), air dry (or cold blow dry) my hair and do not use any chemical products. I only ever use organic coconut oil as an overnight hydrating mask and Ducray Nutricerat intense-nutrition daily emulsion. This product is a godsend for ultra-dry and damaged ends!

6 months photo update

I cannot believe how fast 6 months passed!

On January 15th 2013, I decided to stop dying my hair cold turkey. I haven't looked back since :)

As I was saying in my first post, my hair is long (about mid-back) and I do not want to take the relatively easy way out that is the pixie cut. I love my long hair and cannot see myself without it. But that makes for a fairly awkward growth phase that's very likely going to last a couple of years.

The changes are less drastic on a weekly basis now that I've passed the first few months. My grays are showing, without the shadow of a doubt. What's nice about long hair is that you can sort of camouflage the grays in an up-do or ponytail, or even by parting your hair differently. I myself seem to love flaunting them in everyone's face! ;)

Here are a few pictures of the past two months, mostly in day light. Feel free to leave me messages and questions!

15 weeks: photo-update

I just passed the 3 months mark a couple weeks ago. Three whole months dye-free. I can't say I'm unhappy about it...

As much as I would love to update you with a lot of new hair adventures, like a pixie or even a buzz cut, I have nothing exciting to report on... Everybody in my entourage knows I'm doing this, my roots are showing more than ever, and growth seems to have completely stalled (I know it's not true, but that's how it feels).

I'm also starting to notice a lot more single silver strands in the underlayer, and those are frizzy as heck!

ugh, I'm in a bit of a crappy mood today, I apologize :/ I leave you with a photo-update, and will touch base in a few weeks :)

Please leave comments and don't hesitate to ask me any question!
